The more prepared you are for your move, the smoother your move will go. The best way to gear up for a rapidly approaching move is to ensure that you have the packing and moving tools you need for a successful move. Gathering the proper moving essentials goes beyond simply collecting a few boxes and can help protect all of your belongings on moving day.
What You’ll Need
Boxes
Small
We recommend packing heavy or easily breakable items in a small box so they can be moved easily to minimize the risk of dropping and breaking your belongings.
Medium
Probably the most common size of box you will use during your move, medium boxes are great for packing items such as small appliances and assorted household goods.
Large
Large boxes should be used to pack lightweight items so that moving it is not made impossible by placing too much weight inside of it. We suggest including items such as pillows, clothes or lampshades.
Extra Large
Again, extra large boxes are already cumbersome and difficult to carry. You will want to include lightweight items to avoid making the box too heavy. Try fitting things like comforters, blankets and clothes in extra large moving boxes.
Heavy Duty
These boxes have reinforced walls to offer added protection and support. Choosing a box with thicker walls is ideal for protecting electronics, books and appliances during your move.
Wrapping Materials
Bubble Wrap
One of the most recognizable signs of moving day is the presence of bubble wrap. Wrapping fragile items in bubble wrap helps keep them isolated and insulated so they do not break while you are moving. You can even pop all of the bubbles after your move to relieve a little stress!
(Non-Printed) Newspaper
Newspaper is a great resource for your move. Wrapping glassware or dishes in newspaper adds an extra layer of protection that can help prevent chips in your glass or porcelain.
Miscellaneous
Permanent Marker/Sharpie
Labeling every box clearly is one of the most important things you can do to make moving and unpacking a breeze. Be sure to include any warnings or special instructions.
Box Tape Dispenser
When packing a lot of boxes, using a box tape dispenser will make packing go much faster. A good taping will keep your boxes sealed and your belongings safe during the move.
Box Tape Refills
Having enough tape to adequately cover all of your boxes is a must. If you run out of tape, you won’t be able to secure all of your boxes and belongings, increasing the risk of breaking your stuff during your move.
Box Cutter
After you have moved all of your stuff into your new home, you will need to unpack. Having a box cutter handy will make opening your boxes and unpacking quick and easy. Be sure to have replacement blades in case your blade dulls.
